AUGMENTATIVE & ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATION (AAC)
From texting, to emails, to shaking our head NO, sometimes we just need a way to get our message across without speaking. Augmentative and Alternative communication (AAC) may mean a communication app on a tablet, a dedicated device, or a low-tech communication book. These alternative methods of communication can be beneficial for a variety of reasons including, a child who is non-speaking or minimally-speaking, has poor speech intelligibility, or just has trouble finding their voice in times of dysregulation.
At Fog City Speech and Language we believe that there are no prerequisites to AAC readiness! Every complex communicator has a right to multimodalities of communication, a robust vocabulary, and support in which autonomous communication is the goal.
